A US Cheq searches available court records, sex-offender registries, federal inmate records, FBI wanted notices, and the open web for relevant public records and news. Coverage varies by location and source availability.
We use the details you provide and licensed identity and phone-validation data to guide the search. Some licensed-provider information is not available through a free public search.
We do not sign in to private accounts, bypass access controls, intercept communications, or retrieve sealed records.
How long it takes depends on which records are available and whether we need more details from you. You can follow along on the progress screen, and your report will appear in your browser. If we need more information or can’t finish, we’ll let you know.
A completed Cheq can show a green, yellow, or red result, with a written report explaining the findings and any gaps in coverage. A Cheq that cannot reach a result is shown as unfinished.
Green means no concerns were found in the sources checked, not that a person is safe. Yellow means a few things are worth a look. Red means we found something you should see. A report is a starting point for your own questions and decisions.
We compare the details you enter with licensed identity and phone data to guide the search. We may ask for more information, such as a date of birth or state. A name or phone number alone cannot establish someone’s identity or guarantee a complete search.
If nothing comes back, that doesn’t mean nothing happened or that someone is safe. We’ll explain what we found and what we couldn’t check. If we need more details or can’t finish your Cheq, we’ll let you know.
Cheq brings together available public-record sources, licensed identity and phone data, and open-web search in one report. Some web results can also be found through a search engine; some licensed-provider signals are not available through a free public search.
We explain the findings and the limits of the search in plain English. Cheq does not replace your own judgment or further research.
Cheq does not contact the person to tell them you ran a Cheq. This does not guarantee they will never learn about it, for example if you share a result or show someone your screen.
We collect what we need to run your Cheq. Your report remains in Cheq for up to 30 days except in the narrow cases described in our Privacy Policy, such as a legal hold. A short Cheq-history record, including the person’s first name and a one-way hash of their phone number, stays until you delete your account.
We also keep an encrypted record of what our data sources and AI steps returned during your Cheq, for cost, audit, and dispute review. It is deleted when your report is deleted. A small usage record of each provider call, with no name, phone number, report finding, or web address, is kept for 7 years for accounting.
We never sell your data. We never share it with advertisers. For privacy questions, contact our privacy team.
A Cheq share link shows a limited summary, not the full report or a full name. A shared Cheq of another person does not show their name; an older self-Cheq link may show the requester’s first name. A link lasts for up to 72 hours and can stop working sooner if the report is deleted. Anyone who receives the link can open it during that time.
You can share a result or screenshot privately with someone you trust for personal decision-making. Do not post it publicly, use it to harass or dox someone, or use it for employment, housing, credit, or insurance decisions.
The first 100 eligible new accounts each get one Cheq at no charge, limited to one per person. Creating an account doesn’t guarantee one once the promotion is full.
Anyone can buy a Single Cheq or choose a weekly or monthly subscription. Using a promotional Cheq won’t start a subscription.
A Single Cheq is a one-time purchase with no subscription. The weekly and monthly subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your account page and keep access until the end of the period you paid for. Unused subscription Cheqs don’t carry over.
The pricing page shows current prices. If something goes wrong with a purchase, email hello@getcheq.ai and we’ll look into it.
If we can’t finish your Cheq, we’ll explain what to do next on the screen. You might need to add a few details or try again. You may need us to put the Cheq back in your account before you can retry. If you’re stuck, use the support link on that screen.
No. Cheq is for personal use only. It cannot be used to make decisions about employment, housing, credit, or insurance. Those uses are regulated under federal law (the Fair Credit Reporting Act), and Cheq is not a consumer reporting agency.
Cheq is designed for individuals making personal decisions: checking a date, a roommate, a contractor for your home, or a landlord before you sign a lease. If you need a report for a regulated business purpose, you need a specialized consumer reporting agency that operates under the FCRA.
If you ran the Cheq, use “Dispute or correct” on the report, or email hello@getcheq.ai with the report date and first name you checked. We’ll review it.
If a report about you contains incorrect information, contact our privacy team. Corrections to the underlying government record may also require contacting the source agency.
